Fathom Entertainment's official event page says the 4K fortieth-anniversary version of The Transformers: The Movie enters U.S. theaters from 17 September and advertises an all-new chapter after the credits. Animation World Network adds that U.S. screenings run from 17 to 21 September, international activity extends through 22 September across ten additional markets, and the added work is the twelve-minute animated short Optimus Prime: Awakening. These records establish the window, restoration and added short, but not screen count, box-office target, rights fee or exhibitor split.
Restoration and a new short share one program

Limited dates turn catalog into attendance
Reading the event only as an old film converted to 4K misses its programming. Restoration upgrades the image; limited dates create an action threshold; a new short supplies unseen material; Peter Cullen's final performance adds emotional weight; and the fortieth anniversary gives press and fans a shared narrative moment. The elements address different audiences—nostalgic viewers, voice-actor followers, collectors, families and newcomers. A catalog owner designing a reissue should identify the audience job of each asset before ordering artwork, trailers, dates and localization.
Announced markets do not establish demand
International execution cannot simply copy a U.S. event page. Every territory needs confirmation of the restored master, subtitles or dubbing, whether the added short screens in the same program, classification, local campaign assets, sessions and ticketing. If the Cullen memorial is central, local-language versions also need to preserve the context of the original performance. The release sheet should treat the feature, added short and memorial material as three rights objects, with named responsibility for translation, approval, booking and changes.
What remains unknown: After the event, the useful evidence is ticket velocity, attendance, presale windows by territory, whether the new short motivated attendance, and any subsequent catalog search or merchandise response. Those outcomes are not yet public, so ten markets cannot be presented as proof of global demand. Smaller animation IP can adapt the method to one city, a festival or fan screening, but the cost sheet must include restoration, theatrical QC, materials, localization and rights coordination.
